HELP.....I have just been commissioned to do a 3D chevvy car in yeelow..and I htought hmm maybe it will be okay but..the lady turned up with the pics and I was expecting a convertable but it has a roof...

Now the lady wants it exactly how the piccie is..its in yellow with lots of chrome work....
My question is how do you do it..I wanted it to be hollow with a roof but I just dont think its going to happen..at the moment I think it will have to be a solid car and then shaped with windows added to the outside later plus all the chrome work and the other bits which these cars have..you can tell I know nothing about cars..

Has anyone got any thoughts on this...do you think the way to go is with a solid cake..

Look forward to hearing from you

What kind of car is it??? A sports car??? I used a 3-D race car pan to make a corvette groom's cake...it is in my photos. Is there a way you can attach a photo of the car she wants? That may help people give you suggestions on how to sculpt it. icon_smile.gif

There is a member here at cake central that does amazing sculpted cakes. She did one of an old car. I will check the galleries and see if I can find her...I can not remember her name. I am sure she could give you instructions on how she did the car. I will post back if I find her. icon_smile.gif

The decorator is Jenn123. Here is a picture of the cake I was referring. You can send her a PM and see if you can get instructions.

This may help,
Tracy from Sweet Dreams did a 3-D chevy Camaro and posted her steps.

http://www.webmall1.com/Sweetdreams/photosocc2.htm

It is in 'Occasions' 13th cake down, press the little picture and the cake and her steps with detailed step by step pictures will come up.

Her site is great and gives alot of good helpful direction on various cakes and in the idea section.

Hope this gives you a basis to work with. I know you will do great.

Wow, Tracy's Camaro is great, and it is fantastic that she gives such detailed instruction on how she did it! I didn't look at all the cakes, but her website is definitely one to remember when you are at a loss for ideas.

Traci, the photo you posted I think is a 56 Chevy Bel Aire, Jenn123 also did a great job! Janice

Thankyou everyone...What would I do without you..

That piccie is perfect now I wonder if she could do it in yellow and send it to me icon_biggrin.gif

I will PM her and hopefully get some tips...I am going to put the car on a racing track with some grass and a checkered finishing line ..so hopefully it will look good in the end. The car is in yellow and it has lots of chrome. I have some edible silver but its not that bright going to try and get a brghter one so it stands out against the yellow car..Must admit yellow is not my favorite colour to work but hey cant help it if thats the colour of his car..

Thats again will keep you posted

I cant do it.......I have carved cake and it looks like a tank.........just letting it thaw out cos I carved while frozen...but it looks awful...

Feel like giving up and calling the client cos I cant turn out a cake like this ..it just isnt happening..cant get the shape right..

I have never struggled like this before icon_cry.gif

I am not giving up just yet I will let it thaw and try to ice it to see if it helps but I dont think it will..

Anyone got any ideas....

If you can find a side view of the car you are doing and blow it up to the size of cake you want and print it and use it to make a template on hard cardboard or plastic or laminate it ( that is what I do) and place it up to your cake and cut along it to get your shape !!!

Just a suggestion, take a deep breath, have a drink or cup of tea and then relook at it and you will probably see it in a better light and it will pull together !!! Good luck !!!!!
