How Can I Make A Box "lid" Out Of Buttercream?
Decorating By projectqueen Updated 19 Mar 2007 , 7:23pm by projectqueen
I have to do a Tiffany box cake made of buttercream icing. I have seen nice ones with lids made out of fondant but that won't work here.
Any ideas how to make a box cover or lid out of buttercream?
Never done it before and I'm stumped.
Thanks.
Yes, I am talking about a closed box.
But I have seen where they make it look like it has a top on it. Like this, but not in fondant:

How can I achieve this look in buttercream?
I think if you pipe an extra layer of BC around the top maybe with the icing tip if you have it? That would give you that effect.
I have never tried rolled BC - but maybe that would be a good option?
I do have an icing tip and I think that might work. Just have to keep a steady hand I guess, thanks!
Oh, dang it...what is that smaller tip like the icing tip...it's used for basketweave but doesn't have the teeth that leaves the lines....gosh, it's right on the tip of my tongue!! It's about an inch wide, maybe a little less.

Oh yeah, I think it's 47 or something like that. Another good idea, thanks.
