Im terrible with pricing and sizing cakes, especially when they are not your typical shapes and sizes. I made this fish cake for my nieces husband; you can see it in my photos. Its carved from an 11 x 15 cake, double layer on the body of the fish. Its chocolate mint and covered in fondant then painted with luster dust. To get the size of the cake the platter is 14 x 18. Did I make too much cake or not enough to feed 30 people? And since I had a few people inquiring if I would make one for them how much would you charge?

On the up side of things, the cake traveled six hours in a car on the back seat and survived the trip not moving even a ¼.

Is there anyone out there that can give me some guidance on this one? I just want to make sure that the cake wasn't too big or too small.

Please?

I'm not sure I can help as I don't know what kind of prices are common in NY. Maybe you should ask around at a few bakeries in town to see what they would charge.
