I read on here somewhere that you can make your own ckae release using equal parts of veg. oil, crisco, and flour. Now, do I still have to puit flour in the pan after??????

Also, my mom keeps talking about how I should get an airbrush. I have never airbrushed anything, nor do I have any talent painting. I do think I could do fondant accents with it. What do you guys think. Is this something that can be self taught??? Also, can you airbrush BC???

Can't help with the airbrush, but I make my own "cake release" using equal parts of flour, shortening and vegetable oil............mix it up and keep it in a container in my pantry. I apply it with a pastry brush. No, you don't need to use additional flour after brushing this on your pan.

The recipe for cake release is...

1 cup shortening
1 cup crisco oil
1 cup flour

Cream shortening and oil in mixer and slowly add flour. You don't have to flour your pans after you put this on!!

You can airbrush just about anything.I have one and I use it all the time but it does take practice. It depem=nds how much you think you will use it to invest in the money!

You can make your own. No you don't have to flour afterwards. I just use spray cake release myself. Cleaner and quicker but maybe more expensive.

I am totally self taught with airbrush. I use it on almost every cake...especially butercream. LOVE IT! Couldn't live without it. But- it does take a lot of practice.

I make my cake release using the recipe just given and keep it in a Wilton cake release squeeze bottle. I squirt it out and spread with a paper towel or put it on the towel (for pan sides) and spread. Nothing easier! The recipe fills the bottle twice. I just store it in a tight container inmy pantry. It's a good deal. I love the stuff!

I made some of my own as well and I have to say, I LOVE IT!!!!!!!!!!!

As far as the airbrush goes, I will have to think it over a bit. My mom says that she thinks it would make a perfect B-day present, but we haven't looked at prices or anything yet. Actually, I am a spoiled brat (27 years old, married mother of 2, college graduate, home owner, etc, etc,..... and she still insists on calling me "just a baby" and trying to pay for anything and everything she can), so she won't even care about the cost. I have to do that for her!!!!!!

Enough about that, thanks everyone for the great advice. Will keep you posted
