I am planning on making a cake for my sister's birthday in 2 months and was going to decorate it with fondant pearls and balls. My question is how would I secure them? I am thinking a toothpick inserted, but was wondering if a dab of buttercream would hold them onto the cake as well? I am not decorating the cake in fondant, just buttercream because I have only taken the Wilton Course I class, I have Course II 2 days before her birthday!

Any help would be appreciated!

I use buttercream without any problems. How big are the pearls and balls you want to use?

I've done buttercream as well, but I have also used a little dab of vodka at times. The vodka will evaporate quickly and leave no taste behind. The vodka helps to "wet" the fondant to make it sticky.

Good luck!!!

Use piping gel to attach my pearls. I put a little bit in a piping bag, cut the tip off and voila! Works like a charm thumbs_up.gif

I always use a dab of water, just use a small paint brush to brush it on. I have used vodka too and it works great.
