I was looking at recipes, and it called for 10x sugar. Is that powdered sugar?

yes, it's the same as powdered sugar or confectioner's sugar.

Just make sure as some brands is only 6X, it should say on the package.

10x or 6x or 4x means the number of times it has been sifted. They are all powdered sugar, but 10x means fewer lumps if any because it has been sifted 10 times. Hope that made sense.

Our local Sam's sells 7 pound bags for $3.68 which I think is a deal!

If I understand correctly, the number in front of the "x" stands for the fineness of the grains, not the amount of times that it has been sifted. I think that there are a few threads on here that I've read that had more infomration about it.

This came from the Domino sugar website : "The "X" designations are derived from the mesh sizes of the screens used to separate powdered sugar into various sizes. Thus, 4X would have a larger particle size, whereas 10X would have a smaller particle size."

I guess I got that wrong, but it IS still going thru a mesh strainer, which is sort of sifting! icon_smile.gif
