I have watched at least 4 tutorials, read 100 books, practiced on gallons of frosting--I will never figure this out! Leaves--yep, shells--finally, rope border-pretty much...

But never in a million years will I be able to pipe a BC stinkin' freakin' rose!

Okay--vent over.

I feel your pain.......I am with you.........I just tried again today. I am taking a class that shows you how to make a rose on a stick and for the life of me I cannot do it. I try the wilton way and my roses look like cabbage.......I am so frustrated

My sentiments exactly. These little buggers are really getting to me! The funny thing is, the very first cake I EVER decorated, I did BC roses, and they came out really good. The only difference is that I used a fondant center instead of BC. The center isn't my problem, it's all of the cracking.

I know how you feel, I haven't figured out how to get them right yet either icon_cry.gif ! I think I saw a post somewhere on here about using a chocolate kiss for the center of the rose which is supposed to make it easier but I haven't tried it yet. I hope to get good at them some day!! hang in there!!

Exactly why I gave up on BC roses, royal if I have to, and the Wilton Step Saver out of fondant always!! Some people have "The Gift", Im not one of them.

I was the same way for the longest time icon_cry.gif BUT, one thing I did try was using the Hersheys Kiss as a center and it did help. BUT AGAIN, the other thing that REALLY helped me was, I would pipe my base on the rose nail and let it dry THEN do my petals. Worked like a charm thumbs_up.gif

I can't remember where I saw that but I'm sure it was on here somewhere. HTH K'ly

I've had someone even show me...and I still can't make one. When I try, it looks like it was smashed and run over! Horrible. I too..feel your pain. So, I made fondant ones instead! icon_smile.gif

Roses and stars are the only thing I can make!!! Can't make a drop flower to save my life. My daisy suck, and my daffodills are obscene. My honey can make all the flowers but can't make a rose. He drives me up the wall!

I have this problem too...I could never get the center "cone" firm enough to accept petals without sticking to them and being pulled in that direction. So now I pip with stiff icing the center stick it in the frige for a few min to harden a bit, then pipe the petals. My roses still stink but it at least gave me enough sanity back to keep trying.

DONT GIVE UP GIRL!

When making roses, I usually make about 10 cones and place each one in the freezer. Once frozen, I take one out at a time and make my rose and place the completed rose into the freezer. When I'm through making all of the roses, I let them sit in the freezer until I'm sure they are frozen solid and then remove them and place them in a container that I wrap very well and place them back into the freezer until I need them.

Don't give up! All things are possible! My best compliments come from those who proclaim "I want one of the roses!" on their piece of cake.

Be sure when you make the center that the base is pretty wide (like the hershey kiss) and be sure you make it tall enough. Broad, wide, fat and firm (Hey! Sounds like my butt!). You will want it to be broad enough to hold steady, and tall enough to give you enough space to do the multiple rows of petals.

When you do the first 'petal', be sure you draw the tip up high enough so that it wraps around the top of the base. (ok, this is bad, but I always think it looks like male anatomy at this point!).

I'm in awe of the gumpaste and fondant work that I see on here ... no way I'll ever master that! I'll stick to my BC!
