I work at a hospital on Night shift. I work from 6:30 pm until 7:00 am starting on Tuesday and ending on the following Tuesday. They are 12 hour night shifts and are really rather exhausting. I have called my area craft stores and they have all told me that with the hours that I work they could not accomodate me. However, I have not tried asking for the Wilton Instructor. Perhaps this is an option for me.

personally I have not been very impressed with the classes... I don't consider my instructor the best technician. Sometimes the things she does look nothing like the ones in the book....... the instructor shows you once or twice then you are expected to practice at home ... usually I don't have time to practice the same day ... when I do get to it a few days later I can't remember..... that's where I think the videos would be more beneficial .. you can rewind and rewind until you get it right ... btw ... did you know that on the wilton website you can see an online video of how to make a rose and a couple of other flowers?
http://www.wilton.com/search.cfm

try to find a friend or someone that is interested in this and practice together ... I learn more from this site than the classes

I like you have never taken any wilton classes..Just do this for fun and I look around and say man to be like them... I looked at your photos and well you got more skill than I do... lol I use to decorate more but now just do for fun since I dont have very good hand control anymore. I thought about taking some classes but I think reading and listening to others on here is so much more educational then going to one of those classes.. I have learned more about cakes than I thought there were I am just amazed at the skills of so many cake artist.. I never have understood why they dont call decorators cake artist.. It truely an art what some of you guys do... I say you just stick to what your doing practice and your gonna be doing even more amazing work than you already do.. You should be PROUD of yourself your work is awesome... Maybe someday I can be as good as you! icon_biggrin.gif

Susan, Susan, Susan....I feel your pain!

Learning by trial and error is difficult. I feel like I am constantly asking people how they created that...or how they made this...and what was that technique etc. Most of the time people are more than willing to help me, but sometimes I get completely ignored!

I agree with what momlittr said about lots of practice. We are/were all beginners once!

I had a look at your photos and your cakes are great! I think your work is sensational. You have nothing to worry about!

mwah! (kiss for you)
sQuisH (hug for you)

Beany.

Susan, I like u was dying for a class. I paid 75 us for a private Wilton Instructor that cheated me (Two of us took the class). I waited one year and a half for this course because there are only about two Wilton instructor in country.

All in all, I feel like I have learned 90% of the little I know from CC.

Don't stop asking questions, when u do, you couldn't even imagine how many people wanted to ask that same question, but couldn't express it the way you do !

Someday it will come to u. I know that feeling of "being left behind" all too well. Just hang in there!

Susan,

I think a lot of us are self-taught. There are so many resources on the net, in books and right here. Classes are nice, but certainly not necessary.

You are doing great. I love your pink heart cake and the chocolate ones. Your borders are nice, and your roses are beautiful. Much better than mine!

Just keep on keepin' on. I hadn't made more than one or two cakes in ten years or so. I'm having to start all over again. I am learning the value of "try, try again!" Hang in there and keep slinging that sugar!
