Why is it I can design a cake for someone else, but not my own daughter icon_confused.gif

She's graduating in May. Her school mascot is a panther and the colors are blue and white. Her favorite things are the color lime green and frogs. I want it to cater to the whole class but with a little flair just for her too.
She's my only child and I want it to make her feel special on this day I am so proud of her for icon_rolleyes.gif She is truly a fabulous daughter!!!! I can't brag about her enough.

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated icon_biggrin.gif Thank you in advance, K'ly

Hmmm....that's a tough one with frogs and the panther....I would make a graduation cap and a small fondant panther one one side wearing a graduation cap with a small fondant frog on the other side of the cap wearing a graduation cap and your daughters name and graduation date on the cap as well. If you want to go all out, I would make her face the cake (3D) and then make the graduation cap out of fondant on her head. I don't know, just some ideas icon_smile.gif Hope this helps! Good luck! My daughter is only 19 months old but they sure are something to brag about aren't they icon_wink.gif

Forget the panther and make a Frog wearing a grad cap using school colors.

I am the worst at describing something but when I read your post this is what I thought of. Something like this cake, it's a full sheet, but anyway instead of tiger lillies do very pretty light blue and or white water lillies with a medium green leaves, almost all the way around the whole border giving it sort of a tropical feel, then instead of the flags and paw like I have, I would do the school emblem(panther) choc transfer, and perhaps put blue and white tossles, on the other side instead of diploma I would put a good size brighter green fondant lily pad with a dark green fondant frog with grad cap, or another fun cake would be to make a traditional grad cake flowers, cap, writting and put cts frogs all over cake, sitting on cap, peeking over the back border edge, I did something like that with ants, anyway just babbling, best of luck

I love the frog idea, maybe you could do a frog wearing a school jersey.... do you happen to have the wilton frog pan? It is older and pretty hard to come by... but it would be so cute with a jersey on if you could get your hands on it... even putting the grad cap on it would be cute... good luck!

I automatically pictured a big tall cake.
With a fondant grad cap as the topper (and the tassle coming down over the top tier).
You could make it 3 stacked tiers. Middle tier blue, top and bottom tier white.
Maybe a panther on the front of the top tier, and on the blue tier you could put paw prints.
The bottom tier could be reserved to represent your daughter and her favorite things (frogs, lime green, if she was on a sports team, etc...).
Is it a big graduating class?

I've done two graduation cakes and for both I found the mascot or school symbol online and printed them out to use for a buttercream transfer. I'd stick to the panther theme and save the frog for later, a birthday or something. good luck!

Thank you each and everyone for your input!! I think I'm going to do a combination of a couple of ya'lls ideas. If time permits I'm going to start on my practice cake tomorrow at work. I'll post pics as soon as I have a finished cake. Wish me luck icon_biggrin.gif K'ly

What about a sheet cake with a layout like the one above and instead of flowers on each corner making a small pond with a frog in it wearing a grad cap and to include her favorite color by doing a swag border on the sides.

I was thinking something along those lines. Maybe blue panther paws along the border also.

Thanks again to everyone icon_biggrin.gif K'ly
