I just purchased an impression mat to place the diamond pattern on fondant. Now, I need instructions on how to get the pattern onto the fondant. Do I do it on the cake (I really only want the design on the sides) or do you measure and then press it on while the fondant is laying on the silpat? I am totally clueless here. Thank you so much for all the help, future and past!

If you are planning on covering the cake completely in fondant, then cover it first and smooth it, then use the impression mat for the sides or where ever you planned.

If you are just using the mat for detail work that you will place on the cake, then I would use the impression mat first before placing the pieces on the cake.

Hope that made sense. icon_smile.gif

Wait till your icing crusts....I also brush mine with corn starch...Then I curve mine out...and out on cake (sides , whatever)....then lighty rub your fingers against it....to make sure it goes against the cake enough. If not you can always line it up and press against it again. Then lift off slowly.

I hope that helps a bit. I am horrible at explaining myself.

Great, thank you. I do plan to use fondant, so I'll give the apply and rub the mat a go.

Yes..I use it on buttercream all the time. I love the way it dresses up the sides...( my Yoda and Dora has it on the sides in my photos)
