Please Tell Me You Can Relate????!!!!!

Just did my first BIG wedding cake yesterday (over 200 people, 4 tiers). I can't wait to talk with the MOB or the lady at the site who was in charge of the reception to hear how it went over, though I'm terrified of that at the same time.
I kept looking at my watch last night thinking--ok--the reception is starting--everyone is seeing the cake.
Ok, they should be done with dinner now--they'll be cutting the cake soon,
Ok, they took the pictures of them cutting the first slice--is the rest of the cutting going ok???????
They're eating the cake now----is it the best cake they've ever had, or is it dry, awful, etc.>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Can't believe I'm so consumed with this!!!!!!! Know what I mean??????
Yep, I do know what you mean. I do that too ~ whether it is cake for an event that I catered I am always second guessing myself. Heck, one time I did a cake for someone I work with and I asked her to give me a buzz after they cut it. That was the longest weekend ever and I had to ask her as casually as I could, How did it go?
Nail biting is frequent around here. I think I am very critical of my work and need the feedback.
Matter of fact, just did a wine and cheese with choc fountain and all of that stuff and haven't heard anything.... very long weekend... hehe
I do the time countdown too. It drives me bonkers. But that just shows that you care.
But I am sure all went well, congratulations on your successes. ![]()
When I delivered my first wedding cake I spent the night crying.
I thought they'd hate it.
They didn't but I thought they would.

Hell, I'm doing the same thing right now! The lady picked up my pirate ship cake and said she would let me know how it was.
Well, the party was yesterday at 1pm. I keep thinking that if she really liked it, she would have emailed by now...
Don't these people know they are supposed to call and rave about our creations??
I understand what you are saying soooooo much that if I do not get a call from the people as to whether they liked the cake or not ( I do NOT ask them to do this) I FREAK> Then I go and seek them out and ask .....was your cake everything that you had imagined? WHAT"S WRONG WITH ME? WHAT"S WRONG WITH US?
Can't hardly breath till I know!
I can definitely relate to you!!!!!!
I made some petit fours for a lady (bridal shower) and when she picked them up she told me that she would let me know how it went - very nice lady that knew that I had not done them before and really wanted some feedback.
A week went by - no word. Oh my God, it was a failure.... They must not have liked them.... I'm not going to get any more orders for those.....
Finally called her this past week and I was wrong!! Everyone loved them. Thought they were beautiful. Tasted great. Made me feel a lot better! And I did get another order for some!
So you are probably worrying for nothing! If you really need to know and it's driving you absolutely beserk (and I know it is), call the lady, MIL, etc. and ask. I really think that most people don't even think about us needing feedback - honest mistake really on their part.
Unfortunately, we usually don't hear if it's great. But we hear right away if there was something wrong.
I'm sorry for you that most of you have the same affliction as I do. As for me, it sure feels better to know I'm not the only one!!!
thanks!
& I thought that I was the only one who did that.
midialjoje - I truely thought someone had typed out my thoughts on your post. I think like that EVERY, I mean EVERY cake. I even cry over cakes.
It totally consumes me.
OMG!!! I am the exact same way. I was expecting a lady to pick up a cake around 4:00 on Friday and was so nervous that something might happen to the cake while she was driving home that I called her and asked if I could deliver it.
Forgot to let everyone know that even though it killed me, I waited to see if I would hear before I solicited response. I got an email from MOB on Monday morning saying they loved the cake and from the bride Monday afternoon!!
What a relief. They must have sensed my anxiety!!! Sure feels better to get a response so quickly (Sat. p.m. wedding, monday a.m. email)--and to have it not be solicited. May you all be so blessed.
and thanks for all the nice comments and thoughtfulness.
