I've never seen squares cut for putting between layers. My local cake shop, however, does have squares for displaying the cake - in masonite. Maybe they have them made locally....not sure.

I usually just cut out 1/2 inch foam board to the size square that I need for the board and then cover. I place my cake right on the board - were you wanting to place your cake on something else before the board? You could cut down a larger cardboard cake board if you needed too.

Yes, you can purchase square cake boards at cake supply stores. You can also use foamcore board and cut it to size the a utility knife. I think the foamcore might be a little too thick to go between the tiers of a stacked cake. Hope this helps.

I just cut 1/2 sheet boards to fit the teirs and buy cake drums from decopac.com to put the entire cake on.

I think that thebride was planning on displaying the cake on a mirror so i need somethin to set on top of that. Do you think that I should make the cake on the mirror?

I would put it on a cake board and then on the mirror and trim it out.

What do you mean ? Do I place the cake on the board then cut with a serrated knife? ( I am your neighbor- I live in West Plains!)

Yes, I saw that you are from WP. I couldn't remember if I had PM'd you before or not. We'll have to visit sometime.

I meant to put the cake on a cake board and then put it on the mirror and put your icing trim around it.

Do you think I can transport like that?

Depends on how you stack it and what the mirror is on. If you are stacking it on pillars I would definitely wait until I got it there to put it together and trim the bottom.

You will have to have something sturdy to set it on to transport it. My son cut me some boards out of paneling samples from the lumberyard. They are the kind of paneling like wallpaper. Maybe it is call wallboard. Anyway, he cut me some for my sheet cakes and I just put my phone number on the bottom and ask them to return them or call me and I'll come after them. He even did me some round ones to use on my Wilton 3 tier cake stand. Someone on here said they bought round boards at Home Depot. I haven't looked yet.
