I had my Course2--Lesson 3 today. Darnit! I cannot get the hang of piping all those flowers. I'd like to blame it on the fact that I am left-handed, but I know there are many talented left-handed decorators. I love all those little flowers we made(in my case attempted). Please tell this will get easier. I remember when I began knitting, I thought I'd never be able to do that, but it's much easier now. My icing was thin, so I'm going to make a new batch and practice at home. What do you guys do the most of?Piped, fondant, gumpaste? Just curious.

I WILL GET EASIER!!! Just keep practicing. I mostly just use piped roses and misc other piped flowers.

It will definitely get easier!! I remember my roses use to look like piles of goo!! I'm very proud of them now!! My MIL gave my 5 yr old a knitting kit and she wants me to learn so she can do it. I am just not getting the hang of it!! I finally made one of those little flower thingies. How is a 5 yr old supposed to do that?!?!

Look at my photos. You won't see many flowers and you can still be pretty darn creative w/o them. They do take practice and patience, but you will get the hang of it and pump em out fast. Me, well I've been doing cakes for a year now and anytime I do have to do a flower on a cake I have to practice it because I rarely do them.

I had such a hard time with the flowers in course 2! I just could not get the foundation of the rosebud which you had to use for so many of those other flowers. I wanted to icon_cry.gif in class! I just had a mental block about it. I've got some leftover buttercream that I should go practice with. I think practice really is the key. My roses got so much better when I just sat down one night and made rose after rose after rose........

But what's funny is I could pipe an awesome daisy because it was nothing like that rosebud center!

My roses suck to, even after 10 years, I don't do them alot if I can help it, would rather do the tootsie roll, bubble gum or fondant than BC ones. And my daises, ewwwwwwwwwwwww.................... I do a decent pansy though, go figure.

I will probably hit a few nerves out there, but I believe most flowers on cakes are extremely boring and way over done. I put it on the same scale as writing on a cake. Who came up with that idea anyway? If you don't believe me go to any discount place thats sells cheap cakes...
