I have a cake due on Saturday. The bride wants the type that is on the Wilton tall tiers stand, but she only wants 3 tiers, one being the saved, so I'm thinking a 6" on top. Which would leave me to do either a 10" and an 8", or do you think a 12",10", 6" would look ok? The set doesn't come with a 9" plate. There will be roses between each tier.
Ok, so question one would be what sizes do I need? This will feed about 50 - 60 people between the two tiers.
My other question with this cake stand set up is, must I use the footed bottom plate with the bottom bolt, or can I use only the sizes I need and set it on a plateau?
I've called every store in my area, and either nobody carries it or they are out of stock, so I can't go look at it.
Hopefully someone will be able to direct me before I order something I may not be able to use.
Thanks all!

The chart I have says a 10/8 would serve about 60, so that might be "tight" if you're expecting exactly 60 people. A 12/10 would serve about 90. A 12/8 would serve about 80.

hey indydeb! ok, i guess i wasn't real clear on my question. it's been a long day.
there is also going to be a 1/2 sheet cake for serving. there will be approx. 110 people. my concern is not using the largest bottom plates and starting off with the 12".
also, i just noticed while reading the product description, this stand only goes as small as an 8". That seems like an awfully large cake to store for a year. i was thinking more like a 6", but they don't have that plate. hhmmmm, i'll have to rethink this one.

Ohhhhhh! I thought the total guest list was 60!

Most of my top tiers are 8", so it's not as odd as you think to save that tier.

well, ok, then, i'll go ahead and order one. nobody around here seems to have it, and i'm not about to drive for an hour and pay gas, tolls and tax. shipping is waaaayyyy cheaper!

Are you suppose to use a plate larger than the cake for this stand set up? Like put a 6" cake on the 8" plate? I've never used it...just asking.

Yeah, i guess that makes sense, SweetConfctionsChef. that would give me enough room for frosting and small border.

Just a suggestion:
Why not make a 12" on the 14" plate with the feet, plus
a 10" on the 12" plate, plus
an 8" on the 10" plate
and forget the sheet cake! This should serve the 110 people.
The 6" cake to be served could be made and boxed just not displayed!

The bride still has her 3 tiers and her anniversary cake and you have enough to feed 110 plus you would have the assurance of using the right cake plate to get the support you need on this Tall Tier stand. I have this stand and I love it! icon_smile.gif

Thank you puncess. I will run this by her and see what she says. She said she just wants a "small" tiered cake for show, and the sheet cake to cover the rest. but i really like your idea. i'll print this thread for reference. you guys are all great!
