Can you tell me how you make acorns? I need to make them for a Fall wedding cake design. The bride wants acorns and pumpkins. I've already posted a question on how to make the fall leaves, but I also need suggestions on how to make acorns! TIA!

They are going on a wedding cake and I was trying to make it easy on myself and make them from gumpaste or fondant if that's what you suggest. I do need them to be as life-like as possible, so whatever you think!

I would make them of Marzipan or fondant. There are molds you can buy. I love the one from First Impressions.

And here is a chocolate mold that you could use for marzipan or fondant. You could even mold them of chocolate and they would be pretty and taste great too.

oooo, thank you Shirley! I could probably get away with the fact that they are not 3-D, because they will be clustered on the sides with leaves! I'm bookmarking those links to look more in depth.

they aren't oto hard to make free hand. I usually make them in two pieces (cap and acorn) only because I find it easier to color them that way - there is something to be said for just playin garound with the gumpaste sometimes. But there are very nice molds out there as well.

You're right "JMT". I just have to "dive in" and not fear the unknown! Now I need to come up with pricing, because using gumpaste has to take longer than making my royal icing flowers? How much do you all charge for (basic) specific gumpaste designs. I'm not talking a figurine or anything that intricate.
