How many people torte and fill their sheet cakes? I am planning my daughters birthday party cake and I can't decide how to do it. I am making a 11X15X2 cake and I am not sure if I should fill it. How hard is it to do that with that size of cake? I don't want it to break or something. I can see it now! LOL!!

Hi Heather,
I think everyone does their sheet cakes differently. I usually bake 2 full layers with the filling in the middle. I'm not coordinated enough for torting icon_biggrin.gif
If that's too much cake you could always bake 2 thinner cakes with the filling.

Hmmm...I'd be inclined to bake 2 separate cakes if I wanted a layered cake that size. But I'm not a torting pro.

Sorry to say that I've never had to bake a cake that size, but it does sound easier to bake two and then put them together rather than torting it.

Either way--it's not really that hard.

If you decide to torte a single cake, then just make your cut and slide a board between the layers. Take the top one off, dam and fill the bottom layer and then replace the top.

I usually put 2 toothpicks vertically on the side of the cake so I remember which was it goes. I haven't torted a 11x15 but I have torted a 12x18.

It's really not that hard--just be sure not to overfill and make a nice, thick dam.

HTH!

Lisa
