What are the average sizes for the layers of a 3-tiered wedding cake that you use?
Will be doing my first wedding cake for my niece in August. It will be fondant and the cake plateau/stand is 13/5" diameter at the top edge.
Please help with all your experience!
P.S.: approximately 100 +/- people at reception
Depends on how many people, since you will have about 100, and I assume they want to save the top layer for anniversary.... I would suggest 14-10-6. The top layer would be saved and you have enough servings with the other layers.

Am I correct in reading your base is 13 1/2 " in diameter? You can not have a bottom larger than 12" if that is the case.
LEt us know what you choose!

According to Wilton if you do a 12,10,8 you will have 118 servings and could do a 6" as a topper for the anniversary. The 12,9,6 would give exactly 100 servings. I think it depends on if other desserts are being served and how many the 100+ are! A larger plateau never hurts though!
Best of Luck!

Seeing that your the only one replying here, I need to ask a question about one of your cakes....
The "B & B Cake" - what are the size layers of this cake? The reason I'm asking, is here is a picture of the cake plateau I'm looking at. It would hold the 12, 9, 6 combo. I could go with larger tiers with the more detailed one that you've seen everywhere. But I kinda like the plain designed one and I offered to buy it for my niece as part of the cake. I think a fondant cake would look nicer on it and I wouldn't be so limited with design - or this is my thinking on it.
