Hi!! I just got the Pooh holding the number 1 out of the pan I used Wiltons cake release a little here and there the very top only like crumbs here and there to stick?? Should I decorate it I think it will be ok nothing but a little is gone all still has all of its shape. I have a Darth Vader head in the oven I hope it doesnt happen again. I waited 15 minutes to remove from Pan. Any suggestions greatly appreciated. Also how long to wait to crumb coat and how much of each color icing should i mix help?? Heres the pan I dont have the instructions. Tha colors im thinking are pooh gold, no taste red, black, white, royal blue, and sky blue.

Thanks,

Then if I cover it tightly after it dries I can just refrigerator it correct??
Maybe next time try using a little more cake release? I don't think they're supposed to stick, but I don't really use character pans. You'll be able to cover it just fine with icing!
Make sure you shake the cake release up really well and apply a nice coat with a pastry brush. I NEVER have problems with my cakes sticking and always use this product.
As far as your icing...I am the worst about this! I always end up making more than I need. I would think if you doubled a recipe of buttercream that should be enough. ![]()
Thanks I will next time both pooh and darth vader are in the refrigerator crumb coated with the colors that go on them. I put them in some oversized ziploc bags they were plenty big enough and I figured they would work. I will start decorating pooh Wedensday and finish Thursday and start Darth Thursday night and finish Friday parties are Saturday. Chocolate suckers are done and bagged. Baking and crumb coating smash cake today Pooh single bake 2 in case lol. Trying to figure out what other pan to use I will have lots of cake batter left lol. I have already mixed up all my colors for all the cakes there in containers in the refrigerator. Making Rice Krispie Treats in the Pooh treat Pan Thursday Night. Icing them Friday Night. Should I put them in the refrigerator?? Now just to finish the house work lol. Even have people coming from out of town for the weekend Im so tired lol.
Thanks,
Melanie
Melanie, may I suggest putting the cakes in the freezer? Then you can take them out the morning of the day you plan to decorate them so they will be thawed by evening. Make sure you leave all the wrappings on while they thaw. I think they'll taste fresher that way, since by Saturday they'll be 5 or 6 days old.
I've used character pans quite a bit. I've never used the Wilton release product, but generally, the cake should not stick. Minor mishaps happen and small tears are easy to cover up. As far as coloring, I have always had a hard time figuring out how much color to use. I think temperature and humidity has a lot to do with it. To minimize waste, I start from the lightest color to the darkest. I use diposable bags for the kiddie cakes decorated in buttercream because I hate the greasy clean-up. Hope this is of some use to you.
Ok There in the freezer now how about I take out Pooh Thursday Morning Decorate him Thursday Night then leave in the refigerator till Saturday for the party?? And take out Darth Vader Friday morning and decorate Friday Night for party Saturday and leave in the refrigerator will that be ok?? Also my icing already mixed up is in the refrigerator it will be ok right??
Please let me know if this will be ok??
Thanks,
Melanie
That will be fine... I"m not sure what icing you use, but the all-shortening icing will keep weeks in the fridge. Just stir it up a bit before you use it.
The cakes will be fine in the fridge. I have even left decorated cakes out when I ran out of fridge space, so long as the filling was not perishable and I used the all-shortening (made with water, not milk) icing.
Post pictures when you're done!! ![]()
