Hi,
Next week I have to do an army cake. I thought I would do a camouflage base with a tank on top. Has anyone ever sculpted a tank or have the instructions on how to do one? Any help would be appreciated.
If you can't get a premade pan to help, I make sure I freeze my layers before cutting... it gives you more time to keep cutting away at the cake without it crumbling, and easier to crumb coat it too.
I have also found fondant makes 3D cakes alot sturdier than regular buttercream.
here are two pic and a drawing that might help.
looking at them....if you took 2 sheet cakes and stacked would get basic body.
The bottom would be cut on both ends at a backward angle.
those pieces could be used to make the turret on the top
pretzel stick or fondant covered skewer for the barrel of the gun
little wheels could be mini-oreos or similar covered in frosting.
i'd just paint the track detail
and give it a nice camo paint job.
There are a few army tank cakes on google.. Here is the link http://images.google.com/images?q=army+tank+cake&hl=en&btnG=Search+Images

Look in my photos. I just did one in December for my grandson. All I did was look for a photo of one on the web and eye balled it. It was actually great fun!
thanks for all the ideas. i'll probably try to do like Doug suggested with two sheet cakes. i haven't really sculpted any cakes. wish me luck. i'll post picture when it's done.
