I am planning on making a stand-up 3d cake..a cow. (boween made one, and I am totally copying her!!) She has been gracious enough to answer my questions thus far.

The body is the wondermold and the head is the sports ball. What I'd like to do is put the cow cake on top of a sheet cake. Do I need dowel rods in the sheet cake? Should I put the cow on a cake board before putting it on the sheet cake?

I need help with the particulars of this construction....pleeeeaaaase!! icon_biggrin.gif

Thanks!

Personally I would construct the cow on a board of its own. It will make it easier to cut and serve later. Depending on how much the cow weighs I would most likely put in dowels (forsomething like this I would probably only do bamboo skewers-could also use lolipop sticks since the sheet cake isn't tall.)

I maybe overly cautious though. I am one who would rather be safe than sorry.

If you will not be there to cut and serve don't forget to tell the customer that there are dowels in there that need to be removed before eating-let them know exactly how many there are so they aren't worried if they got all of them.

how many layers is the sheet cake? If it's a single or even a double, I'd be cautious as stated, about it not being enough to hold the weight of the cow.

This cake is for my friend's son's first bday. So, yes, I will be there for cutting and serving. (Not so sure about how to cut the cow, though!?)

The sheet cake will only be one layer..not filling.
