To Make Chocolate Buttercream With Baker's Chocolate????

I am planning on making chocolate buttercream using melted chocolate instead of cocoa powder.
Do I use unsweetened (orange and black Baker's chocolate box) or semi-sweet chocolate (Red and black Baker's chocolate box)?
I know I need to add about 3 oz of the chocolate to the shortening/butter mix to make this work.
TIA
I've used the unsweetened, I've never tried semi-sweet
It will work but you'll want to check/adjust your sugar to make sure the BC is sweet enough.
I had made chocolate BC using cocoa powder, but it came out a pale brown. If I want a deeper shade of brown, what should I do, add melted chocolate? If so, do you have an idea how much?

I usually color mine with the gel colors. I only have Wilton's brown color, but it looks too red, so I'll be looking for a different brand next time.
Ameri color makes a chocolate brown color.
I wanted a deper brown, so I made my BC dream with a mixture of dark chocolate chips & milk chocolate chips. The color turned out pretty good (Good Luck cake in pictures), and it was delicious!
