Is there a difference? I was going to make one of those shoes and all I have is fondant...can I use that?

gumpaste will dry much harder and faster than fondant alone. A lot of people perfer to mix 50/50 fondant with gumpaste to give them a little more working time. You can also mix in a little bit of gumtex or tylose powder into fondant to make it a 'quick gumpaste'. I have never made a shoe, but if I were doing it I would add some gumpaste to it if it were parts not meant to be eaten.

i actually just made the shoe last weekend out of mmf. it worked fine, but it is softer so it needs lots of time to dry. and it still doesn't get as hard as gumpaste. i used it because i had some mmf already, and didn't have anything to make gumpaste.
