I am looking at buying larger sizes of some of the flavorings that I use and I'm looking for suggestions, brand names and retailers. Right now, in my limited experience, I use clear almond, clear vanilla and clear butter the most. I think the Wilton ones are GROSS tasting. Please tell me there are other brands I can use. If you could also list where you purchase them from, that would be great too! ![]()
What ever brand just make sure that it is pure extract and not just artificial flavoring. The pure stuff tastes better and goes further. I think favorites would depend what I was making. I am on an almond kick right now though.
I really like Creme Bouquet - it is fresh and citrusy tasting but not exactly lemon. I also have Lorann orange and lemon oils that are great - you only need to use a few drops at time to flavor a whole batch of something. There are so many that I'd like to try too so I'd really like to hear what everyone's favorites are.
Where can I buy pure extract in large quantities? What about the whole coloring the icing thing so you have to use clear? I know that I can buy small (and expensive!) bottles of McCormick pure almond extract but do they make pure vanilla or pure butter in clear? I've heard about the creme bouquet so I'm definitely buying some of that to try.
Parrish's MagicLine sells a very tasty Vanilla. I also like Penzy's orange extract and the LorAnn oils. Watkins has some great Vanilla flavorings too.
I'm pretty sure that real flavorings don't come in clear...they are all artificial. I buy my clear flavorings from my local cake supply shop, and they actually have their own label on them, so I have no idea what brand they are. They butter that I use is an emulsion, and does not take very much at all or it overpowers.
