I am trying to make a curious george figure. I have made the easy mmf recipe and it isn't holding the shape very well. Do I need to add more sugar or will it set up better tomorrow? I have read in some of the forum posts that it will harden over time but it is for this Sunday so what can I do?
Also. I have some premade marzipan that I bought from the cake store but I don't know what to do with it or if I can add it to the fondant to make it harder. I know I could probably make the whole figure out of marizpan but I was trying to explore my options because the marzipan was kind of expensive and I don't know if I have enough. tia

When did you make the MMF? It really helps to let the MMF "rest" overnight before working with it.

I made it probably 5 or 6 hours ago. So I guess I will have to wait until tomorrow to play. Thanks

Usually when making fondant figures you need to add CMC / gum traganth to the fondant to make it stronger & quick - drying...or add some flower/gum paste to it.

hope this helps icon_biggrin.gif

with MMF or fondant, you need to add gumtex, tylose, cellogen or something similar to help the figures/shapes hold. Have also read that for any modelling work MMF needs to sit for at least 24hrs (must harden up a little this way)

Marzipan is a more expensive way to create figures and the finish wouldn't be as smooth.

good luck -- can't wait to see george!

When I tried to add gum tex to my MMF it had a different texture, it wasn't right. Something I did differently was I didn't let it sit over nite. I usually make a batch and put in frig. I do use gum paste or fondant and add gum tex to make it pliable. I will have to try the MMF and gum tex again...
