How Do I Get Fondant To Firm Up Fast!?!
Decorating By krissy_kze Updated 20 Feb 2006 , 2:03pm by Cake_Geek
I'm making a Curious George out of Wilton pre-colored fondant and its so soft! How do I get it to harden quickly so I can assemble it without it squishing into a blob-monkey?
Thanks!

I found the wilton fondant takes a LONG time to firm up air drying. Even after 2 days, my Nemo and Dory and Marlin had flat bottoms. I kept turning them and re-molding the bottoms, but it still didn't help to much. I'm presuming you already have the pc's made? Not sure how a low oven temp would affect it. Hopefully someone with more fondant experience will see this and answer.
What exactly is fixodent? I've heard that mentioned a few times now, but, being a nurse and all, that (to me) is the stuff you use to glue/secure dentures in place. I'm presuming it's not the same stuff you are talking about since I don't think that type of fixodent is edible? Sorry for such a dumb question
OK then! LOL. I thought it was something else. Hmmm. My kids are probably the only ones who would eat fondant characters anyway. Usually. Since I switched over to the MMF, everyone is attacking that stuff, but I have not tried to mold it before. Does the gumtex work the same as the fixodent? and how much would you really need to add?
Molding with the MMF has always left me with flat bottoms with or without gumtex added. I would suggest to make your pieces individuall and then let them air dry for a few hours. Check on them and test their dryness. Assemble when you feel they are sturdy enough.
