A lady emailed me today asking if I could give her private lessons on fondant. She's traveling about 300 miles for it and supplying her own materials. She said she's willing to pay me. What do I charge? I'm clueless on this one. Here's her email for details.
Hi!-I have emailed you a few times for tips and to let you know what
wonderful work you do! My sister lives in Artesia and her name is
Candice. She just recently ordered the sports cake from you for her son's
5th birthday. My request now is for your help (like hands-on help): I
live in Las Cruces and want to learn from you how to do the decorating
on your cakes. I don't want to steal any business from you just want to
learn for myself. I will be in Artesia on Friday, April 6 for my
grandfather's 80th bday on Saturday. Would like to make him a cake and
wonder if you would give me a private lesson on the fondant? I would be
willing to pay you for your time and will bring all the materials.
Please call me at 505-649-0489 or give me your number and I can call so you
don't have to call long distance. I would love any help you can give!
Wow!
I have no idea, but am interested to see what everyone else thinks.
My first thought was to figure out how much time it would take you to make the cake, what you would charge and then add a flat rate on top of that.
That is really a tough one.
Good luck.
Okay, someone you've never met just invited herself into your home.
Before you quote a price, have you checked to be certain that she is who she says she is? Called the sister? Reverse-lookuped the phone number?
I hope that isn't her correct phone number in your OP... ![]()
If it were me, I wouldn't do it. It will probably wind up being a waste of your time and her money--but if you really want to, I guess I'd just charge by the hour enough $ that you wouldn't resent having to teach her. $25/hr?? Just throwing that out there.
