I recently bought a 2lb. Satin Ice Fondant to see how it works. Wanted to know how it went with others. Maybe some of you could give me some hints before I try.

Also-- any idea of how much this will cover?

Thanks-

I had heard so many people rant about Satin Ice so I bought some myself. I did a wedding cake with it the other day and loved it. The taste is fantastic and it handles so well. I use http://www.wrenscottage.com/kitchen/tips/fondantchart.php for an estimate on how much I need when using it.

I have necer heard anyone rant about Satin Ice?? Wilton Fondant yes.

You will want to knead it very well. This will make it stretch while applying. I tend to roll mine thine. Also I have tall cakes so I am not sure how much coverage you wull get. If I had to guess I use a little over two pounds to cover a 8", 6" and a 4"???

Hmmmm.... I've heard no rants either... icon_confused.gif I love Satin Ice! But, I will say that it is softer than other fondants, so playing around with it to get a feel for the consistentency is a good idea.

If you like the SatinIce, you'll also like using the Pettinice fondant - just my opinion.

It is WAY different than using Wilton-so if you've only used Wilton it will probably be a little frustrating on the first couple of tries. You can roll it really thin and it tastes pretty good. I LOVE FondX though...and I have not used any of them in huge quantities (yet).

I used Satin Ice for the first time last month. I've always used Wilton prior to that. I'll definitely be staying with the Satin Ice.
In my opinion, compared to Wilton:

- It was much more managable - I was able to roll it out fairly thin and it came out really really smooth looking on the cake.
- it had a better smell to it (vanilla smell).
- the taste was better (still wouldn't want to eat a lot of it... but it did taste better than the Wilton.

The 'ivory fondant wedding' cake in my photos was the one with the Satin Ice.

HTH!

Thanks for your help and suggestions. I cannot wait to give it a try. And no-- I've never used Wilton or even tried fondant-- so this is going to be interesting. I didn't do the Winton because everyone said how horrible it tasted. So-- I think I'll do ok and I know it takes practice-- that's how I learned to do the cookies-- over and over and over.

Happy Weekend Everyone!
