HI

My neice is in a skating carnival next week and I thought it would be nice to make her a cake. Does anyone have any ideas of what I can do. I was thinking of doing a FBCT (have never done one yet! YIKES!!) or doing a fondant pair of skates for the top of the cake and maybe some figure skates around the edge of the cake.....(I don't know if I'm at this level yet!)
I'm new to decorating, am just taking course 1 of the wilton class (will be having my class 2 of course 1 on Sunday---can't wait!)

I'm open to any and all ideas and I know you talented cake artists will have some wonderful ideas!!

Looking forward to hearing them!!

DO a search in the galleries under winter themed as there are some skating ponds in there, but molded ice skates sound great.

I took skating lesson for years when I was younger, and I can't wait to see if my daughter will too! What I am thinking is maybe a cake with a skating pond on top. (You could melt some light blue candy (chocolate) melts into an abstract looking pond shape. Add some small winter trees from a hobby shop and make a little girl out of fondant. Maybe one skating and one sitting on a park bench by the froszen pond.

OR a cake with a fondant skating dress (with cake sparkles of course) and figure skates kind of laid out on the cake. With fondant bows etc. Just a really girly cake that says, "Ice Princess". LOL

I like the idea of doing an ice skate. I have one in my photos that is a gel transfer. There is not a lot of detail in an ice skate so it is not difficult to do a gel transfer. icon_smile.gif

This is a picture of the cake that I did for a figure skaters b-day. The skates were done in royal icing and edible glitter
