Help With Stacking A Shaped Pan On A Sheet
Decorating By SugarBakerz Updated 16 Mar 2007 , 4:33pm by abeverley
Ok... I am doing my 1st shaped pan on a sheet next weekend... would I stack just as I do layered cakes for weddings? Put a board under the shaped pan and cut dowels to keep it on top of the sheet so it wont' collapse? I am asking because the woman wants one plain yellow inside and one marble, so I thought using the board would separate the 2 should she have someone with a chocolate allergy she may not know about. Any tips or advice would be great... I am doing Lightning Mcqueen, so if anyone has a pic of one they did from the wilton pan and put onto a sheet, I would appreciate it! Thanks!
When I have stacked a shaped cake on a sheet cake, I did exactly what you said. I cut a cake board to the size and shape of the shaped cake, covered it, and put the cake on top. I used dowel rods to support the top cake. (I actually used more than I would for a similarly sized round cake, because I was worried about the odd shape resulting in less stability.

Unless it is really heavy or has slick fillings...it wouldn't dowel. I worry that the posts would be so short that someone might bite it on accident.
I always make my dowels come all the way up to the top of the icing, so they can be seen and removed before cutting. (If I wasn't always the one who has to cut my cakes, I might be more worried.)
