Do You Charge For Multiple Flavors?

Who here charges for multiple flavor wedding cakes?
I have a possible bride who wants 3 different flavor cakes, 2 different types of frosting and 3 different fillings! all for a 34 tier cake!
How much extra should I charge for that, if any?

I sure hope that was supposed to be 3-4 tier and not 34 tier-YIKES!
I dont' charge extra for cake flavors or fillings, no matter how many.
However ...... If it's for a larger cake (4 tiers or 3-tier plus satellites) and they want multiple flavors, I do point out that it means we will have to cut each and every tier to serve all the flavors to their guests, and if they have cake left over (which they always do!) then it means they potentially will have 3 or 4 partially cut cakes leftover, which is more difficult to store. I point out that if they have, for example, the bottom tier white, the next tier chocolate and maybe the 2 satellite cakes white, then leftover cake will most likely be the 2 satellite cakes ... uncut ... easier to store.
I don't think they ever think it out this far .... they just think it will be "cool" to have lots of different flavors, without realizing what it takes to serve that many flavors at one time, and then storing partially cut leftover cakes.
Most brides will reduce their flavors after I explain this to them. If they are dead set on a 3rd flavor, I suggest they make the anniversary tier that flavor and then it can be "just for them".
Yes, 3 tiers. Must have hit the wrong key and didn't check before I posted, oops! ![]()
I don't charge extra for cake flavors, unless it's carrot, but I do limit thier choices to about 6. I do charge them for filling as well as extra $ for anything other than butter cream frosting.
I don't. My specialty is my variety of flavors, and I don't care a hoot what they choose, but that's just me...
I have only had two brides this year choose all one flavor, most are delighted to choose a different flavor and filling for each layer.
Of course, each specialty flavor has its own per-serving price...some are $3.50/sv and some are over $5.00, so they are paying for the flavor combo anyway.
yes, 10% more per flavor.
It's moustly to make them change their mind, and they do

Darn! I was waiting for you to post photos of that 34 tiered cake! ![]()

I have a cousin going to cake tastings right now and she's heard from a couple of bakeries that she can pick multiple flavors, but her final per serving price will be whatever the price is of the most expensive flavor. For example, if yello is $2 a slice and her carrot cake tier is $4 a slice, her entire cake is quoted at $4 per serving.

Now that kind of stuff, to me, is what makes us have to fight to justify our real expenses and pricing. Anyone reading that story would find it odd and hard to justify, but these are the stories that start out with "well, they're all out to get every dime they can out of ya!" So of course brides head out to do their price comparisons with the feeling that our pricing is too high for a silly reason so they shouldn't have to pay it.
Just another soapbox that I jumped on! ![]()
I have two categories of cake flavors, standard and premium. I don't charge extra for different flavors on a tiered cake, but I do charge the appropriate price for each flavor (based on the amount of servings for that tier). It's not as complicated as I just made it sound.
