hs any one heard about the baking program at the art intitute of california? or the art institute in general?
i went and saw them today. its a one year diploma course and it sounds like a lot of fun. i do have a full time job however, in a completely unrelated field and will have to figure out if i can manage the two.
does anyone know of any other schools? do youll think a program such as this is important to be able to start a business some day? or to work in a professional bakery?

thanks!

The art institute program is pretty intense, one of my friends tried it. With a full time job it was too much. What area in California were looking at?

I know you are in socal, but I highly recommend traveling to SFBI for one of their week-long intensives. I had enough experience with cake and very little interest in pastry, so a 1 or 2-year baking and pastry certificate program was not what I was looking for. SFBI offers both bread and pastry courses. I went for the 2-week breadmaking intensive.

They have contracts with several hotels near the school and free shuttle service to/from the school, so you could travel up there for a week-long intensive.

The instructors are great and all of the students in my class were professional bakers from around the world so I learned a lot. It was a fantastic experience.

well i guess what im asking is, is there an advantage of doing this course or will short classes or just home baking be sufficient?
and are there other schools that are better? does anyone know of a ranking system for baking schools?
