How Do I Fix A Cake That Broke?

My cake broke on the side when taking it out of the pan? How do I go about fixing that so I don't have to bake a whole other cake? Thanks so much!!

can you post a photo of how badly it broke? you might just be able to put it on the cake board with the other pieces and simply ice it together.

I guess I should have taken a picture. I put it in the freezer. I think I will be able to keep it on there with the icing, but are there any ideas on how I ice it? I can just see me making a big mess!

I would put in the freezer for a bit and then put a crumb coat on it. Let that dry and it should be good. Hope this helps.

When this happens to me, I usually try and "glue" the two pieces together with icing and a large tip to get it in the crack good. Depending on your icing, you might have to chill the whole thing for awhile before you ice it all, or it can pull apart when you're trying to ice the cake. You may want to ice it extra thick over the crack so you can't see any bumpiness. Hope this helps!

That happened to me a few weeks ago with no time to bake again, so I fixed with buttercream and pressed the cake back together with cake smoothers to get a flat edge.

Then I was icing with sugarpaste and no lumps showed.

Thanks everyone! I did glue it together with the icing, but I noticed that one side of the cake is bigger than the other. Good thing it is just for class!! It is still smooth! Thanks everyone!
