The thought came to me Sunday morning at work (we had no customers and I was bored) and when I went for my evening walk, it turned into a full blown plan. I figured that I would start off with the 3 basic flavors of cake; I'll be making 6 mini cakes all together using both scratch and doctored up DH. Everyone that attends will receive a form to rate the the texture, moistness and overall flavor of the cakes.

Why do I want to go through all this trouble? Simple, I need honest opinions, constructive criticsm, and it's a way to get a couple of my friends to see that I do make more than just chocolate chip cookies (I kid you not but that's another story for another day). Not to mention, it will give me a chance to see what people are looking for in a baked good because should this turn out to be successful, I'm going to host another "tasting party." So far I have 3 people that can't wait to play guinea pigs but I told them to let me iron out the particulars first and then I can set an exact date on when I'm gonna do this.

That does sound like a great idea. I might have to try something like that someday. Let us know what you do exactly and how it goes! icon_biggrin.gif

I'm in the process now of writing down some of the things I wanted to be graded on. Texture, moistness (wonder if those two go hand in hand) and overall flavor are my biggest concerns. What did they like about the cake or what didn't they like about it. My friends that have already agreed to be my guinea pigs, I told them to be as honest as possible because I really need the feedback. They don't know that I'm using both a box and scratch recipes. I just told them that I was using two recipes for each cake.

Will be back with more details.....
