I am wanting to find out the difference in each of these dust. I thought I had read about them somewhere before but can't find it.

I am planning on a graduation cake in a couple of months. I want to make a diploma using rice paper. I have read where people have used luster dust around the edge of the paper. Can shimmer dust be used instead?

Thanks in advance for your help!

I would say not if it is the Wilton Shimmer dust. This cannot be used the same way as luster/petal/pearl dusts. It does not mix with any form of alcohol at all--just turns into a big clumpy mess. And it really does not dust on dry all that well--it really is just finely ground cake sparkles. It really can only be sprinkled on BC iced cakes and for fondant cakes, you just spritz a bit of water where you want the shimmer dust to go. And because rice paper dissolves in water, I think it would be difficult to put a bit of water on the edges and then sprinkle on the shimmer dust.

No...you can not use wilton's shimmer dust like luster dust. Take it from someone you has learned that the hard way. It just makes a big mess!
