Today is pi day and I decided to do a FBCT on a 12" round single layer cake with a bunch of round cupcake (of course) with the numbers of Pi on it...

Well, I usually do my FBCT on Pocket Sheet protectors over a plexiglass/plastic picture frame... But since my sheet protector was too small, I decided to do it DIRECTLY on the plexiglass... I smeared a little crisco on it and went to it...

it was only AFTER I put it in the freezer did I realize... HOW will I take it OFF???? I can't PEEL it off!!!! DOY!!!! Where is my brain???

I just put it in the freezer like 10 minutes ago and I don't have time to do another one... Is there ANY chance it will work????

Or will I end up scraping it all off and just making a big Pi sign on top of the cake??? ACK!!!!

What a total dufus - this lack of sleep is a KILLER!

OK, here's the disaster! LOL

Image

And this is what I ended up with:

Image

The other disaster I had was that I made all butter buttercream and guess what, my kitchen was HOT - it's 75 degrees outside, so the rest of my hous is 74 degrees... I was running the dishwasher and the oven had been on. My kitchen, later I measured, was 81 degrees... My buttercream was SLIDING off the cake!!!! ARGH!!!

Thank goodness I learned these lessons on a day that it was OK to make mistakes! LOL

The final out come was good though!. I like the cupcakes with the numbers for Pi. I will try to remember that for next year. I cheated this year and gave my daughter a pie to take in to her math class. icon_cool.gif

icon_sad.gificon_lol.gificon_sad.gif Ohhh....Berry! (chuckling while saying "ohh...")

I'm so sorry you've gone through this. I have TOTALLY done things like that before. Like maybe 100's of times, due to lack of sleep.

Poor Berry! Your cake & cupcakes still came out good, though. They look delicious!

Ohhh.... icon_wink.gif

I hope it does too! LOL At least I can laugh about it and no SERIOUS damage was done... It's this 4-5 hours of sleep every night that is killing me. I decided not to make the cake last night because I felt I was too tired to do it right, well... nuff said! LOL

I know it's too late for you now, but if something like this happens again, you might try using dental floss to loosen it. That's what I use on my color flow because it's less likely to break.

HTH next time!

Oh that's a good suggestion!!! I actually got the sides free, but it was the center... the dental floss "might' have worked, but I'm wanting to try to make a chocolate transfer this weekend, and that's a good suggestion! Thanks!

Your final cake turned out great though. It's too late but I was thinking your could try flipping it on your cake and using a hairdryer to try and melt it off. Who knows if it would've worked.

Funny, I didn't know there was a Pi day!

Oh, but there's something to be learned from every disaster - remember, that's how silly putty was invented.

I learned in a big way not to put a giant Hershey Kiss in the center of your cake unless you're baking a specialty cake for someone who runs a "honey wagon" or cleans septic systems.

I LOVE it... It's the Cupcake Courier - pricey, but there's nice distance between layers. When I did a swirl on top last week, there was JUST enough clearance and wouldn't have fit with those Oneida 24 cup carriers. This one holds 36.

here's another picture showing some cupcakes stacked (only two levels):
