Confused About Cake Thieves?

Okay Okay, I know this might be one of those "DUH" questions but I keep seeing things on here about cake thieves and then something about finding their pictures on websites? I'm confused, is someone actually taking other pictures and putting them on other websites as their own cakes? I'm just wondering because that would be very sad ![]()
That's horrible! I'm sorry to hear that! It's true, it's one thing to get inspiration and one thing to pass another cake off as your own original design. I agree with people saying to put a watermark on your pictures hopefully that will stop them!
I'm wondering why this site doesn't have a protection on the galleries -- anyone can download anything that anyone has posted. I've always had a concern about that.

The only way to protect yourself is to watermark your photos. Some sites don't allow right clicking as a sort of protection, but there is an easy way around that.
Ok, maryjsgirl,
Don't ask that here!!! It might give some unsavory characters ideas and I haven't watermarked my pix yet!! ![]()
Speaking of which, how does one watermark your photos??
I found this off Earlenescakes.com in the FAQ section. Hope this helps some. Thanks Earlene!!
How do you add your name on top of the cakes in your photos?
I use Photoshop Elements 2 software and this is the process used.
Open the photo in Photoshop Elements 2. Crop the photo to the size you want it, resize it. Now click on the typing tool and type your name on the photo, highlight the typing and change to the size you want on your photo, Click on the moving tool and move the name to the approximate place you want it. Click on Image, scroll down to rotate, scroll down to free rotate and put the name at the angle you want on your cake photo. When you have it just right click on effects and scroll down to Brushed Metal (or whatever effect you want), click on that. It will change the type if you like it then go to Layer and scroll down to flatten layer and then save your photo and that name will now be a permanent part of that particular photo. If at any step of that process you do not like what you have done you can go to Window and scroll down to Undo History and go back as many steps as you like. Or all the way back to the original photo and start all over again.
Great! I'm sorry I don't know how to watermark photos but it looks like he did a great job! Thanks for that great ideas...I haven't uploaded photos yet but I will definitely keep this for future! ![]()
Haha I think this would be the wrong place to give directions for that.
I use to run a parenting group and there were people that would steal our kid's photos to use as their own in other groups. That is how I learned to watermark with PSP. Here are directions if you also use PSP...

Whatever type watermark you use it is best to have it going through a section of the cake or else the person can just crop the watermark out.
I just found a free watermarking tool online. Nothing fancy, but seems easy for those that aren't computer people.

The problem is you can't add your watermark to photos already posted in the gallery if five or more members have already saved that photo to their favorites. The best thing is to start now with every new photo you post, add the watermark first. I keep forgetting to do that myself and now I have a lot of photos without one that are posted. Heath says they are working on a way of automatically adding the posters user name to their photos but it is not available yet.
AH,
yeah it's to specific...I think they are trying to prevent people from knowing how to STEAL pictures. Maybe a I know how to do it, so do this instead. Not a how to. JMHO
