I have never used gumpaste..but I want to try it. I went to Hobby Lobby(which is the only store around here that sells any cake supplies) they had pre-made gumpaste and a gumpaste mix that you just add water to. I also know there is a recipe for it. Which is best? I bought the mix..but before I opened it I thought I would ask the experts icon_smile.gif Thanks!!

I use the Wilton dry mix that you add water to. I believe that there are some much finer gumpastes out there....but for what I'm doing, this seems to work just fine. It's easy to mix up and has a great shelf life after having been mixed and kneaded.

I have never tried premade gumpaste, I always make my own using Nicholas Lodge's recipe. It easily made and gives me good results.

I really like the GP from Wilton, that's already made for you. It's in the silver pouch.

I tried the CK brand GP, but it didn't want to dry well at all for me!

I've used both (although not a lot) and prefer the pre-made. Convenience issue for me. I don't use it that much so the cost is really not a factor for me.

I have tried it straight from the pre-made package, a mix, and by buying the ingredients to make it. I think I enjoy MAKING it more because I can whip up a batch at relatively low cost anytime. The problem is, sometimes I forget to knead in the last cup of powdered sugar after it rests and end up with something that resembles chewing gum and don't figure out what I've done wrong until my roses have already stretched to oblivion! I know when I bought the premade stuff, some of it was really hard. But it was good for practice. If you are just wanting to "try it out", I say buy a package of the stuff, just to get a feel. icon_wink.gif
