Wilton Course 3 Help Please!!!!!
Decorating By cookielicious Updated 13 Feb 2006 , 6:12pm by Loucinda
I have my second Course 3 class tonight and we never got our books!!! They were out of stock I guess. She kind of told us what to do and bring for tonight, but now I am not sure! I know what basic stuff to have and that we needed to bake a square cake to decorate with fondant. I have the fondant already. Do I need to make any icing to bring?
I guess what I didn't quite catch was how to make the fondant rose bases? And how many to make? Ahhhh!!!! I am totally stressed about it. Please help!!!! ![]()

Here's the fondant rose from the wilton site. If you need more, we'll all be here to help. ![]()
PS--you do need to cover your square cake with a thin layer of icing (crumb coat)
Your buds probably won't have time to dry for tonight. When I do the fondant roses, I always use a small jelly bean, and it works best for me. I'd make some before class anyway, but just in case it will be too soft to work with tonight, you'll have a backup.
I think I remember her putting the buds on a stick... Is that what I am supposed to do? I was sitting in the very back (not by choice! There were a lot of people there!) and it was sort of hard to see everything.
Thank you, by the way, to everyone for your help!
Toothpick, put the bud on a toothpick. You need a little more icing as well in order to pipe the bead border and attach fondant pieces if needed. Also some kleenex to help form your bow. I would only make one or two buds.
If you instructor is anything like me when I teach, I would prefer the student showing up unstressed, even if it means not having anything ready for class. Do what you can, but please don't stress. I know how it feels very important to be prepared, but you are not at fault for not having the book.
I think you just make them on a stick so they dry properly - toothpics are fine. You will be making the fondant bow in class, not a whole lot of the roses this time. I would make up 6 or so to take to class. I doubt you will do more than that right then. You have to make the ones for your final cake (class 4) at home - you won't make them all in class.
You need to take your cake with a thin coating of buttercream on it. You need to take 24 ounces of fondant and whatever amount of fondant you had left over from class 1 and the 12 ounces of pink left from class 1 too~ and it says 1/2 cup medium consistency buttercream icing for the bead border.
