A question for those of you that have used food color markers/pens. What brand do you use? I bought a pack from the grocery store but am a little disappointed. The colors are not strong and the way the tip bends I don't have as much control using them as I thought I would.
Are they all like this? Or is there a brand that works better?
I have the wilton ones as well the tip on them is not flexible it's pretty much just like a marker tip. I think they are o.k. I've used them on fondant. I don't think they would work on buttercream. When working with fondant if you have a small area that needs to be a certain color they work to color it in so you don't have to make that color. I don't know that I would say, " rush out and buy them you've got to have them". You can really achieve the same look with a paintbrush and some diluted color.
I bought the ones at the grocery store, too! I cut a little off the end, and since I couldn't get much color out of them, I dip them a little bit of liquid food color, it's a pain but it works! ![]()
Yeah I had bought some generic ones and then got the Wilton ones as I thought they'd be much better. Not. They work on certain surfaces but are not that bright. I mostly use them for writing on small pieces of fondant or making tiny designs but I don't use them that often. I agree, you can do just as nice with a paintbrush.
I have found the tips of the Wilton markers to be much too fat for my needs.
After much searching about, I have found and fallen in love with the wonderfully fine-pointed AmeriColor Gourmet Writer food decorating pens, and I use them exclusively for any detailed work on fondant or gumpaste. With these, I can draw lips on gumpaste faeiries and write not only the "headlines," but the "articles" that go with them on fondant-covered "newspaper cakes."
I just bought the same ones they have on the kopykakes website.......set of ten claims they write in fine, medium, and a broad tip for coloring in.......I ordered the exact set off of ebay because all I wanted was the pens and kopykakes needed an order of 20.00 or more........I haven't received them yet.......should be in today (just in time, I need them to finish up Valentine's Day cookies LOL ) so.......I'll write back and let ya know....I don't know what the brand is on them , but I will let you know when I get them ![]()
