Which Gel Colors Do You Use The Most?

Right now all I have for colors are the Wilton ones that came with the toolbox (leaf green, lemon yellow, royal blue, christmas red) and then I bought orange and pink because I needed them for something specific. I've been holding off buying a lot of Wilton, because I was considering placing an order for Americolor.
So, do you use Americolor or Wilton? Which colors do you use the most?
How is the shipping from the Cake Central store (amount and time)? I tried adding a bunch of things to my cart and it still wouldn't tell me what the shipping would be...
I have a lot of the wilton ones and I really have a hard time with them. They aren't very true to the color shown or described. I really like the Americolor and find that they have more true colors. I can't wait to run out of the Wilton (I just can't waste and throw them away!) so I can replace them with the "good" stuff.
I would say black and red (cause you just can not get those deep colors any other way)
For some reason I find myself using pink and rose colors alot - not quite sure why.
Oh and forest green.
I to love the squeeze bottles - though more then once my one squeeze was too much color. (you just do not need as much from the Americolors).
where do you get those americolors at? I don't see them at micheals or any other craft stores? When I use the wilton colors gel. sometimes they dont come darker what i wanted it to be like for example i wanted a darker blue it turns out to be like pastel color blue. light blue. It was frustrated. I don't know how to make them darker like primary colors.

I know you were probably wanting to purchase the food colors direct since you could pick them up when you need them but here are a few sites that I order from since it is hard to obtain the colors anywhere near me. I used to use Wiltons until I purchased Americolor. It's Americolor all the way now. Love the colors

These are just a few I order from. Hope it help a little.
Americolor all the way!!! I buy the little bottles for many colors, but the big ones for black, red, and ivory (wedding cakes). I like the egg yellow, violet and regal purple (mixing them makes a nice purple), peach, mint green and leaf green. The squeeze bottles are nice, but when you just need a tiny bit, it can be easy to use too much. I find that I still use a toothpick sometimes to get just a little. Oh, and the bright white is nice to have in case you use a bit too much.
I, too, have been replacing my Wilton with Americolor as I use them up. (With the exception of Super Black and Super Red, which I bought because I was so frustrated with Wilton's red and black.)
So far, I have 4 oz. bottles of Super Black, Super Red, Leaf Green, some kind of yellow, and Navy Blue. I have small bottles of ivory, orange, and something else. My wish list includes Royal Blue, brown, another shade of green, teal, and maybe a pink or a purple.

I prefer Americolor over Wilton. Here are my reasons -
Amount control - if you count your drops as they go in, and write down the number you needed to achieve the color you desire, you can make a second batch that is darn near, if not exactly, like the previous batch you made. This is especially important when making custom colors. Count your drops as you add them, and when you achieve that color, photograph it (if possible) and add it to a file on your computer, along with the formula for making it. That way, if you need it again, it will not be a guessing game.
Ease of use - What I call "The Special Colors," black, red, brown, navy, are so much easier to make with Americolor than with Wilton. It does not take nearly as much product to achieve these colors as it does with Wilton. Super Black and Super Red are phenomenal!
Taste - Because you use less product to achieve colors with Americolor, there is less chance of embittering your icing flavor, as can happen with Wilton.

I love the Americolor-I have both kinds and will use up my Wilton when I need small batches of colors. I do not like using a toothpick, the gel gets too thick after awhile, and it takes a lot of color to get the desired effect.
I've ordered a lot of Americolor squeeze bottles here from Cake Central-they are frequently only 99 cents each and even with shipping, they are cheaper than most! I cannot live without super red, super black, warm brown, navy, burgundy, pink, and orange. All others I use on a smaller scale. I LOVE the squeeze bottles! OH, I had to have the white too for my figures that I've been practicing. (eyes, clothes, etc)
I quit buying Wilton when I discovered Americolor on CC. I especially like the Super Red as I use it more than anything for my Red Hat cakes. I like the colors better and I like the factor of squeezing it out and not using the darn toothpick in the gel. As others have pointed out you have to be careful because it doesn't take as much as the Wilton does. I order mine from CC. JMO

Ok, so after reading this tread I believe I will be ordering some Americolor colors instead of using my Wilton bottles. My BIG problem with the Wilton bottles is leaking...all over...all of the time!!! ![]()
I also prefer Americolor. Just discovered it a few weeks ago and just placed an order this morning for more. I love the Super Black and Super Red, navy, forest green, and gold. They do seem to be truer than Wilton. I really love that they come in squeeze bottles so it less messy. When my Wilton run out, I will only buy Americolor.
Oh yeah, I order from Sugarcraft.com when cake central is out of what I need.
I will definitely try it next time I order supplies. I am from North Louisiana. Acholloway which part of Louisiana you from? Monroe here. ![]()
