They look like they are tiny fondant or gumpaste flowers stuck onto a mound of either buttercream or fondant. fondant stems and leaves.
That is a beautiful cake.

Those are cool. I don't think they're icing though; they probably are gumpaste but what kind are they?

I am in the same opinion. Mini flowers stuck together on a mound of either BC or Fondant. Very pretty.

Are they the blooms of a Snowball Bush? Wish the picture was a bit closer view.

They look like Hydrengia (spelling) flowers. They look like they are gumpaste and then stuck on the side of the cake on a mound.
A very lovely cake.

hey everyone, I was very curious about these flowers so I put them into my print program and blew up the picture. I know it is a little blurry but it looks like they are individual flowers stuck onto a cluster of icing or something. what do you think??

I was thinking of another flower but couldn't get it - but YES Hydrangea! (Sp! LOL)

I've been looking at that cake for a while online, too. I LOVE her cakes. But I am pretty sure they are royal icing flowers. If you have ever seen the book Pretty Party Cakes by Peggy Porschen, they show how to make royal icing hydrangea blossoms, so that might help.

I'd say that they're fondant and cut with a pretty basic 5 petal cutter, like the one for stephanotis in the link below. They're definitely not made using hydragea cutter (that has 4 fat stubby petals).

They haven't been thinned with a ball tool or anything, and a round center has been applied.

It makes for a lovely lilac cluster, I think. I'd attach them to a buttercream mound.
