Ladies and Gents,
After working for one company for over 25 years and in the same office for 16 years...I find out just today that they are closing my location 
. Although I am sure that I could start somewhere else new...is that what I really want? Maybe this is my push to jump into this head first! 
(After that long legal/illegal thread yesterday!) If anybody out there is from SC and had gotten legal please tell my where you started. I called state government yesterday and DHEC and got no where...My boss is coming with offeres tomorrow so I would kinda like to know how involved it is and about how much money people need to start out with!!
i'm in oklahoma....but the health dept is where i got started....they were very helpful...
they helped me with the shop layout and told me the other inspectors i needed to call in order to get opened.
it really wasn't that bad.
Thanks littlecake! I really don't know what to do..this is very depressing...this is only the 2nd real job I have had and this is all a shock! I have a garage that is detached from my house we could fix up to make a kitchen...I hear that SC definitely does not allow you to use your home kitchen. I will call the health dept now!!

Sorry to hear about your job!! From my own personal experience, sometimes doors close and windows open for a reason.....
I'm in Alabama but the Health Dept was where I had to start also. Sounds like your somewhat already there with the detached garage! GO FOR IT!!! 
i know what you're saying....i had another business that i had for 16 years....one day "belly up".
it nearly killed me.....making cakes was the furthest thing from my mind...i had no idea what i was gonna do....
during the time of transition making cakes just kept comming up (i had never made a cake in my life)...but i felt like God was trying to tell me something.....so i pursued it....i've had some rocky patches, but it's turned out on the whole to be pretty good!
now if i could just lose the 40 pounds i gained the first year i opened! HA HA
You all have all made me feel better. After the thread on being legal yesterday I can't get these cakes off my mind...so maybe God is telling me something!! Let's just hope I am not to stupid to hear him!!!
