I am going to a family party, and they all know I have gotten into this whole cake decorating thing! Any ways...they have had my typical buttercream frosting......and I want something new, just a good frosting, tired and true, and if you have it, a good cake recipe too!

I'm just board with what I have! LOL

So...whats your favorite!!

I really like the chocolate buttercream dream on this site. If you are going for fancy and not decorating with much design, a chocolate cake with mocha buttercream (buttercream that you instant coffee (1-2 t. in 1 T. water) and some room temp melted chocolate) then covered in chocolate ganache. For a chocolate lover indeed!

Chocolate cake, peanut butter filling, chocolate ganache. YUM!! So rich, but sooo good! (I've been meaning to try that mocha frosting too!)

The cake that most of my friends and family call their favorite is blueberry cake with cream cheese filling and buttercream frosting. I modify a DH white cake to make the blueberry cake and with the plump blueberries that are available at Costco right now it is incredible!

I have to admit, I love red velvet with the crusting cream cheese frosting on here. I add a chocolate pudding to the DH red velvet mix and it is awesome!

Indigojods, I would love that recipe!!

Now with the PB filling for the cake, do you just use regular PB or so you mix it with something to make it fluffier??

Thanks so much for the ideas you guys!!

I second that!

As far as the filling goes, there are several recipes on this site. The one I use is the one listed with the peanut butter cake.

The recipe is on the bottom. To tell you the truth, when I first tried the frosting I didn't care much for it. But when paired with chococlate fudge cake, a light layer of buttercream, and ganache chilled in the fridge (frosting has half and half in it) and then warmed just slightly in the micro, it is fabulous. Lot's of folks also like the peanut butter cup filling.

I think spice cake so doesn't get the attention it deserves!! I also like to add pumpkin jello pudding mix to the recipe and use the pumpkin creamer in the buttercream. Too bad pumpkin is only around once a year!! MMMmmmmm filled with a layer of cinnamon ice cream..........
