Hi there!
How much do you typically charge for an 8" round cake, decorated in buttercream with fondant accents? I have an order for Sunday, and I am doing 2- 8"round cakes, torted and filled and I charged her $50 for both. Do you think I charged too much? She hasn't paid me yet, so I could change my mind. She is a friend of mine and they are for her son's 4th birthday party. My daughter and her son are friends.
TIA
Jen
So many views, not many replies. I guess I will just leave the price at $50. I asked a couple of people at work (I work in a financial institution) and they said that I'm undercharging (I don't know about that), so I won't worry about the price anymore.
Thanks for looking.

I charge $45 EACH for an 8in round, so 2 would be $90! I guess for a friend $50 is fair. Hope that helps!
I charge $1.50 per serving (base price). A 8" (4" high) round cake would feed 16 to 20 people. In addition, I charge $10 - $12 per Lb. of fondant applied to any cake, and $2 - $5 per layer (depending on the cake size and/or on what I spread between the layers).
Some of my cake prices are standards (i.e. 9 x 13 sheet/ buttercream, $25.00).
Don't be afraid to charge a fair price for a good quality product. The grocery stores charge less, but their cakes are usually frozen and cover
with inferior quality frosting, filled with preservatives and stuff that are not very good you. ![]()
I think $50.00 is about right. I charge $30 for an 8 inch, so you are in the ballpark.
Thanks so much for the replies. It really is hard to price a cake isn't it? Some people will think that it's easy to do one and there are others that know the work and time and effort that goes into it. I think next time, I will charge more. I've downloaded the pricing matrix and I'm still working on tweeking it for my needs, but I love it!
Thanks again. I love this place! ![]()
