I was just told at a cake shop that MMF will give me a lot of problems in the summer and that I should be using store bought fondant. I like MMF, I find it very easy to work with and people like the way it tastes. However, I've never used store bought... Opinions? Thanks!

I've done MMF in the summer and have no problems with it... I don't put it in the heat, such as for an outdoor wedding. I live in the south (Louisiana)... any outdoor wedding in the summer would melt any cake lol

icon_smile.gif Hi,
I've used MMF a lot for roses and simple decor - works great!! I did purchase some Satin Ice recently to see what it was like. It is wonderful and you can purchase it from IntoTheOven.com. It tastes great and handles very good. My first wedding cake is in April and I will be purchasing it again to keep the color consistant and because it is so easy to handle.

Sounds like the cake shop really had no experience with MMF. I have no experience with storebought, so I'm not going to go around telling you one is better than the other. But, I've used MMF a lot of times, and it is VERY stable. I use it because it's inexpensive, I kind of like the taste, and ingredients are readily available. No ordering, shipping, etc.

Ya know, I just made fondant last night using the recipe from 'The Cake Bible', and it tastes just like MMF, but is even better to work with, in my opinion. It also dries harder than MMF, which I've had problems with because I do a lot of sculpting with fondant & found that the MMF just didn't 'stiffen' like I wanted it to.
