I have an order for NFSC w/ Royal icing (2-dozen wedding cakdesign) and about 10 dozen regular cookies. I.E. white chocolate macadamia, oatmeal chocolate chip, etc.
I need some ideas on other cookies and also...HOW MUCH SHOULD I CHARGE???? I've never sold cookies before and have NO IDEA what they should cost. Any help would be SOOOO much appreciated!!!!
Thanks,
Ashley
Ok, for your NFSC wedding cookies, I would charge at least $4 a piece. I don't think that is out of line for your area. you can probably go $5. As for the other cookies, I charge $4/dozen and I think I'm not charging enough. Maybe $7 a dozen. I make the basics. Chocolate chip, oatmeal, oatmeal with butterscotch or raisins, snickerdoodle, chocolate crinkle, peanut butter, etc. You could also try doing a recipe search for cookies and see what that brings up. hope this helps a little.
How much to charge is totally going to depend on cost of ingredients in your area so I can't really help you with that, but I would say you should do double chocolate cookies, those are a favorite... as well, you could do a few versions of oatmeal, regular, raisin, and with butterscotch chips. White choc macadamia are also the best!! And honestly, you just can't beat plain old Nestle Tollhouse!! Those are the original and most wonderful CC cookies on the planet!
Good luck!
Decorated cookies are typically a dollar an inch, so you're looking at at least $3 per cookie for your decorated ones. Regular cookies it just depends on the size of them, also I charge more for cookies with nuts (particularly macadamia nuts). My white choc mac nuts cookies are about 2.5 inches across and I charge $9 a dozen for them with a minimum of 2 dozen. For more basic cookies, chocolate chip, oatmeal raisin... I go $7 a dozen with a minimum of 2 dozen.
Sounds like all of these posts are on the right track and thanks because many times I have the same issue for pricing.
One other quick tip, I would use a scoop to make the regular cookies to ensure they are all the same size.
The macadamia nut sounds great I will pm my address, just want to have a little taste for quality control, of course. ![]()
Good Luck!!!
I think it depends on your cost and your area - call around to other bakeries and see what they charge. I only charge $1.50 each for mine but I live in Kansas
I have had folks grimice at that price. This morning I had a lady cancel a cake on me because she did not have $30 in her birthday budget?? Sometimes I think I am so overcharging - until I am up until 2am getting the stuff done!!! ![]()
I had never heard the $1 and inch - that is a good way to look at it too - but like I said that would not fly in my area ![]()
Good Luck!
Do any of you sell to local businesses...I opened my mouth to the owner of a small coffee shop that I frequent in a mall and told her I'd bring her some, if she likes them we'll put them in her case to see how they go and then talk money. I am definitely thinking of the decorated NFSC's. What kind of break on price do you give your retailers (since they need to be able to mark up!)?
Thanks everyone sooooo much!!!! I want to give her a deal b/c she is friends with my mother (and that is how I got the business)
Baltimore is a pretty busy area and people will pay alot of $$$ for something nice (or otherwise for that matter). They really want the Mac. nut I figured those would cost more. Thanks for the tips and suggestions! I sooo greatly appreaciate it!!!
Check out this website. This woman is AMAZING and she makes the most beautiful cookies. It will give you an idea of how much to charge, as well as design info.

I'm just getting into making cookies and my boss wanted 25 star cookies and I blurted out a price on the fly..... and I feel self conscious about what I am charging. I made a cookie matrix, and I put the $1 per inch as the default, but that is too much, I can't charge that myself. I had to put it at $0.18 an inch to go with the 80 cents I said........
BUT, I was at a cookie store today and they had PLAIN chocolate chip, etc... cookies (no decoration, no bags, nothing fancy) for $1.25 EACH! YIKES!
So now I am thinking I could ask more... still not $1 an inch
I'm rambling. I need to set my base price though. Can anyone look at my picture and use my matrix to help me to set what my base price should be?
Beezaly, you can use the matrix to at least know what your COSTS are, play with the base price and then decide if how much you are making per hour is worth it for you.
