i am a beginner and make a MESS everytime I bake and decorate. I always get colored frosting or drops of icing color on my white counter tops. After scrubbing forever, I tried the magic eraser and it took the dye right off. I just thought I would share my tip!!

thanks for tip...

I've been a long time user of a slightly different technique: good ol' bleach.

Ditto on the bleach! Just one word of caution - I used magic eraser on a stubborn mark on the wall once and it worked too well... took the paint off too!!

Thank you, that is a great tip. Usually I'll use bleach but I'm afraid so I have to change clothing and it's a hassle.

P.S. They also work great on your tiled shower walls. You'd be amazed at how great they clean soap scum.

I like the eraser as well... but as my mother says "if it doesn't smell like bleach, it isn't clean" OK so I am not that extreme but she is a nurse and used to everything sterile.. icon_smile.gif

those magic erasers do work great. but did you know you can buy them for 1/2 the price (pkt 8 for $3.50 or so) from the home depot or Lowes. Not the same name but the same product.

If you have formica or other laminate counters, be careful with the magic eraser, and test in a hidden spot first!

My MIL used one to take spots off her counter, and when I look at her counters from across the room, I can see about a dozen "dull" spots where it dulled the shine on the finish. It DID take the stains off, but the stains weren't nearly as noticable as the spots are now, LOL!

I love them too. Haven't tried them in the shower yet though. On the box it warns not to use on shiny finishes. My boys even like to clean with them!

Clorox makes bleach pen that's great for the little spots. I use it all over the place icon_smile.gif I'm sure someone out there has come up with a cheap way to make your own, but I'm just not that crafty.

Ditto on the eraser leaving dull marks. I have eggshell finish paint on my stairwell to the side door and used the eraser there. When the sun shines in the door, you can see everywhere I used it. On regular semi-gloss, I've not had a problem. And it works GREAT on grout.

Thanks for the tip about using Magic Erasers to clean up food coloring and whatnot! I hadn't thought of trying them. I used to use them in a portrait studio I worked at. We used them on our white canvas backdrops that pulled out onto the floor. We posed children and families on them and they got quite dirty so we cleaned them nightly. The magic erasers worked well on the white but we couldn't use them on any of our colored backdrops or they'd fade the paint and the magic eraser would "erase" the paint. LoL.
