I went online and found "Mailbox News Cake Decorating Ideas" and "American Cake Decorating", but I don't want to subscribe if they're not any good.

American Cake Decorating is a very good one, but my biggest addiction is a British magazine, Wedding Cakes. Just pages of pages of inspiring cakes. It would cost a small fortune to subscribe, so I go up to the local Barnes and Noble to pick up a copy every other month, as it comes out. I use my discount card, so it's not too bad, but I think it comes out to about $10/magazine. Well worth it, though.

Both of those mags have lots of photos which is good. Mailbox news is mostly just photos. ACD is photos with articles as well. You should also consider joining ICES which has a free magazine as part of the member. You might want to visit their websites first, so you can get a feel before you subscribe.

I would not recommend Pasty Art and Design, it is $30 a year for only 6 issues and doesn't cover cakes.

Mailbox News is a good one if you like lots of pictures and ideas for cakes. American Cake Decorating magazine is a more instructional and "how-to" kind of cake magazine.

I emailed American Cake Decorating and turns out they publish Mailbox News. I asked if they would send me a sample issue so I could decide whether or not to subscribe.

Imagine my surprise when I opened my mailbox one day and got 2 ACD's and 2 MN's - current issues!!! I was doing the happy dance! icon_smile.gif

Agree. I was first exposed to this British magz when a bride gave me her copy. (I was modeling her cake after one of the cakes in the magz). The British style is different than the American style, but I like seeing something different that is inspiring! (The issue I have has a pic of Charles and Carmella's wedding cake in it.)

I subscribe to American Cake Decorating and like it. Bronwyn Weber (sorry wrong spelling) contributes an article each month on techniques. Some interesting cakes of various styles. Also has articles on topics of interest. I look forward to seeing it each month.

Mailbox news is not as nice --- it's really an inexpensive magazine with pictures sent in from the public. A lot of amateur photos on flimsy paper. I don't think it is very expensive. I would be more interested in it if I didn't have access to Cake Central's picture gallery.

I did see a UK magazine that looked similar to American Cake Decorating, but it was more expensive.

Any other magazines?

What about other cake decorating forums? What are some of the differences between the forums?

Just an FYI - My husband ordered American Cake Decorating for me in November for part of my xmas present and I still have not received my first issue. It was through Amazon.com and I saw reviews warning that it takes months to get your first issue. The estimated delivery for me was Nov 14 - Mar 13th so hopefully I will get it any day now. Also, I believe that the issues are every other month, not monthly. Just something to keep in mind if you want it and do not have a lot of patience icon_smile.gif

Thank Goodness someone asked this question!!! How many times do you subscribe to a magazine and have it be all ads!!! It's great to know what others enjoy before taking the plunge!!!

Thanks Everyone icon_smile.gif
