I loved doing these cakes! Thanks to Nati for posting some directions for guidance, and to Carrielynnfields for her kind words of support. Also, a huge thanks to koko4min for sending me the logo's!! They were so helpful to me.
I ended up just carving both of the cakes on my own though. It's carved from two 8" rounds a big sheet cake. They're covered in MMF. Details are made with an assortment of edible paper, gumpaste and mmf. Both cakes are sitting on top of a big cookie!
Thanks for looking!
Ah, thanks!
Off and on, it took me about a week to completely finish. I did all the pieces I could before making the cakes and carving them.
Awesome job! I am contimplating making a lightining mcqueen for my sons birthday next weekend, but I dont know if it is too difficult for me! What size cake specifically did you use for him? Any other tips?
Those are awsome! My son must not see these, he wants ANOTHER Cars birthday this year and I'm not sure if I'll be ready for quite a task as that!
I carved McQueen from two 8" rounds. He was actually very easy. The hardest thing for me was the logo, trying to decide what to do, how to do it, etc. All his details are drawn by hand on the car I did. Definitely do rice crispies for the wheels. They were so EASY!
Did you apply a full layer of white mmf to the whole cake? Then did you cut away at the red layer? Is the red layer "pieced" together ? Sorry so many questions, your is sooo good! I just like to get all of the info!
That's okay. I just rolled out, as thin as I could, a piece for the windshield, and a piece for each of the windows (they're actually gray). I did not cover the whole car. I did piece the red mmf on as I didn't want to cover the entire car because I wanted the windshield and windows to be inset. I'm glad my effect worked!!
