Sugarcraft is offering their petal dust 4g at $1.99 and can be mixed with water icon_surprised.gif

Do you really get 4g and is it water friendly?

TIA thumbs_up.gif

Really? Doesn't that go against the laws of nature?!?! icon_surprised.gificon_surprised.gificon_lol.gificon_lol.gificon_lol.gif Well, now I will have to go take a look-see. But I guess, why would you want water when using alcohol just makes it dry so much faster?

Missy,

That surprised me about the water also icon_surprised.gif

But what I really wanted to know is if you really get 4g for $1.99...if so, that is an outstanding price icon_biggrin.gif

Who knew, Stephanie?! I guess petal dusts are water soluable. Went to a few other sites and they say the same thing. Well, I feel silly now. But, I will always still use vodka with mine... icon_biggrin.gif

Is that less than paylesscakedecor.com? I know that you have to buy two jars and theirs should be 4 gm too. Ah, I think I have enough petal dusts--I just want more things that sparkle!!!! icon_lol.gificon_lol.gificon_lol.gif

I'm almost out of clear gold! I think I will be calling ECG here pretty soon--maybe get some of the airbrush pixie dusts too! thumbs_up.gif

Mixing petal dust with water and painting on fondant or gum paste IS A VERY BAD IDEA. The water will melt both of those and in no time you'll have a huge mess on your hands---stick to the alcohol or lemon extract.

The cheapest alternative for petal dusts is to grate non-toxic chalk pastels through a tea strainer. I get 48 colors for $4.99 at Michael's.

Where is the best place to buy disco or pixie dust? I think I need some for the end of March, but I need to make the pieces before hand, so I'll need it sooner than that. Who has it reasonably priced, good customer service, and doesn't take forever to get it to you?

These places have pixie/disco/mystical dusts:

Cakes By Sam
Beryl's
Global Sugar Art
European Cake Gallery (ECG) Supplies

Cakes by Same gets their pixie dusts from ECG. littlecake had ordered directly from ECG and had a pleasant experience--I believe they were quick too, but you have to call and place an order--no online ordering. She said they were really nice!

Thanks, Rae! I figured as much about the water. And thanks for the tip on the chalks. That is awesome! thumbs_up.gif

Thanks Missy! I had already called Cakes by Sam to see if they could give me a whipping estimate. ECG is much cheaper on their dusts though than Cakes by Sam. I tried to call them to get a shipping estimate, and had to leave a message. Hopefully they call me back. I would like to order these today.
